Social Media or Industrial Media - which way to go?

Social media in my opinion is a tool, albeit a very powerful tool, but nevertheless a tool within a marketer’s toolbox. Too many times I feel we forget marketing is a 360-degree experience. Customers can be anywhere today – TV, print, online, mobile – and it is a companies job to effectively target and reach their selected customers through each of these mediums utilizing a variety of distribution methods.

Traditional forms of media have been around for hundreds of years – the first American newspaper appeared in Boston in 1690. Don’t expect your daily newspaper or Sunday Tribune to go down without a fight. Readers will continue to view traditional media as a reliable, steadfast source of information. Industrial Media has its place, but Social Media is extremely valuable and infinitely more dynamic and unique than industrial media. Social Media is largely delivered via various forms of electronic technology like: Phones, Computers, Websites, groups, and forums, for example.

The reason it’s more dynamic is because social media seeks to deliver content that’s relevant only to the reader, not the masses.
