Online reviews

Online reviews or ratings sites allow customers to share their positive and negative - opinions about local businesses. Customer opinions have always had the potential to influence other people's attitudes towards a business. In the past, these opinions were communicated mostly by word of mouth.

But the internet has given customer opinions mass exposure. Millions of customers now post reviews of goods and services on websites, blogs and other social media. And millions of people read them. Research shows that positive online reviews increase the likelihood of customers using your business, while negative reviews reduce it.

What online reviews do?

From user perspective, benefit of online reviews is - they offer unbiased reviews about businesses in immediate area. Business owners naturally tend to have a love-hate relationship with them. Since the sites operate as virtual word-of-mouth, reviews can have significant impact on businesses' revenue and reputation. Yelp, the biggest ratings site by far, distinguishes itself by its "filtering" process, where it attempts to display only most trusted ratings. (Trying to get rid of biased reviews that either praise or trash the business unfairly.) Here's how it works, according to Yelp:

Ratings sites offer significant opportunity for businesses. Minimum, you can get an idea of how well you're meeting your customers' needs. (If you have 53 online reviews complaining about your service, you should do something about it.)

More importantly, ratings sites give you the opportunity to directly connect with customers. You can comment on customer online reviews either publicly. You can offer them special deals - and send them out via Twitter and Facebook. And you can leverage location-based sites, that allow users to check-in at your business.

Who online reviews are for?

Retail, hospitality, restaurants, theaters, service businesses (lawyers, realtors, contractors), and other bricks-and-mortar businesses, as well as tourism-related destinations such as museums. Millions of businesses worldwide have been the subject of online reviews. If a customer wants to post a review of your business, your business will automatically appear as a listing on their chosen site.

Some online reviews websites publish figures on how many businesses use their sites for promotional purposes. For example:
  1. Google reported that approximately 8 million businesses worldwide (16%) had 'claimed' their Google Places page by 2012.
  2. Yelp noted that around 24,000 businesses had taken out paid advertising on the Yelp site by 2012.
  3. Foursquare (a location-based service) reported that 400,000 businesses used the site as a marketing tool in 2011.

However, no online reviews site publishes readily accessible figures on how many businesses respond to customer reviews. A quick visit to any site reveals that many businesses are joining the conversation, but what percentage of businesses they make up, and whether that percentage is rising, is difficult to say.

Who writes online reviews?

Far fewer customers actually write online reviews. In Australia, a 2012 Nielsen survey found that:
  1. 43% of respondents had discussed or added their own comments about a brand online in the previous year
  2. 39% had posted reviews of brands, products or services.

A 2012 Sensis survey found smaller but still significant numbers, with interesting differences between women and men. It found that:
  1. 24% of respondents had posted reviews or blogs in the last year
  2. men (31%) were more likely to post than women (17%)
  3. hotels and motels were by far the most popular topics for online reviews, followed by restaurants and bars, movies, music, holiday destinations, and stores.

Each reviewer is likely to post a number of online reviews (e.g. the Sensis survey reported around 12 reviews per person per year). This adds up to a huge number of online reviews in total. For example, in early 2012:
  1. Yelp reported more than 27 million reviews worldwide
  2. TripAdvisor reported around 40 million online reviews worldwide.

So it's important for businesses to engage with customers who post reviews - because their opinions may influence so many other people.

Promote Soundcloud tracks for free

FREE service to make updating your social networks a snap!
Almost every active, relevant musician is now using Soundcloud. There are millions of active account holders on this social network which makes life hard for any artist to really be seen and heard. All hope is not lost as there are still many ways to promote Soundcloud tracks for free, so that you can stand out above the rest - which we will go through with you below.

The main thing is to keep your profile updated. You must upload unique music but also sharing the song on different social networks such as Twitter and Facebook. The more you do this the more traffic you will send to your SoundCloud account. It is all about staying connected with your listeners which is why you should also make sure that you respond to comments that are left on your songs. This will show SoundCloud that you are active, and that people are liking what they listen to.

  1. Amplification

Sharing your SoundCloud profile to all your social networks online will further expand your fan base. One good turn deserves another, so make sure to do the same on your social networks, make your SoundCloud profile stand out on your blog, Facebook, and Twitter. Take advantage of your profile and track descriptions to give an introduction about you and your work, tell a story, and ask people to click the repost button if they like your content. Encouraging people to share your music will result in more shares than not telling them to do so, and this will lead to more followers, as well as track-likes.
  1. Free Soundcloud Likes
Get Free Followers is a service specializing in music promotion on Soundcloud. Before going through this how-to, we must agree that you need great content and frequent releases. If you are doing music a good rate could be 2 songs per month. If you reach certain rate, don't stop for too long or your followers might lose attention in your work.

Soundcloud is a community platform that's heavily focused on allowing you to discover new stuff, through what's trending and by involving findings and content of people you've already connected with. As a result, a halfway decent Soundcloud stroller will often come across a new act.

  1. Google search optimization

Google likes space. Instead of User123 make it User 123. Google also likes repetition. Repeating your Display Name in your Profile URL and linking to your other social networks will help you climb up the ladder on Google search results.

Increasingly more so, social media profiles have become the go-to of the younger generation. The majority of people, and particularly the demographic of 15-25 years old, immediately looks to social media profiles when further investigating an artist they have just discovered. I'm sure you've come across a band that you liked on Facebook, went to their 'about' section and discovered that there weren't any links to their other social media profiles there. Annoying right? So straightforward, yet this key point is missed out on by so many acts, when it comes to promote Soundcloud tracks for free.

Soundcloud has integrated the ability to add social media links to your profile, and even adds the correct thumbnail images to the links of the larger sites. You can edit these under your 'Advanced Profile' settings. When setting these up, I recommend that you restrict the amount of networks you use. The essential links are: website (, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.

Everything else is irrelevant, and the more options you present to people, the less likely they are to click any of them.

For those of you out there who are looking to build upon your credible profile and have a chance of reaching your targeted market we will always suggest that you use FREE SoundCloud likes tool (mentioned above) - instead of buying likes. The likes that this tool provides come from real active users who have been directed to your song of your choice due to their unique marketing methods which of course comply with this social networks terms and conditions. You'll get to know about their marketing methods - on the above article as well - they keep it that much transparent to the users.

It is very important that you either use the SoundCloud likes tool or do what ever you can to gain them because if you have a large amount of plays but very few likes it will not do your image any justice.
