Online review sites

Customer reviews are posted on the following kinds of online review sites, where the most popular sites include Yelp; TripAdvisor; and CitySearch and InsiderPages (these two are owned by the same company and share content back and forth). Yahoo! Local and GoogleMaps also have incorporated ratings functionality; not only do they allow users to post reviews, they also aggregate ratings from the other online review sites.
  1. General review (e.g. Yelp, Product Review)
  2. Special review (e.g. Urbanspoon, TripAdvisor)
  3. Retailer websites (e.g. Amazon)
  4. Blogs
  5. Other social media (e.g. Twitter, Facebook, Google+).

Here's what you need to know about online review sites: Your business is probably already listed on one or all of them - even if you don't know it. Anyone (yes, anyone) can create a review page for your business, so users can start writing glowing or scathing reviews without your knowledge, so it's important to get actively involved in monitoring these online review sites.

As a business owner, you can get free access to your page and enhance your listing with photos, details, special offers, and more. But you cannot edit or alter the actual reviews.

General review

Online review sites such as Yelp for business, Product Review, TopTenREVIEWS and the US-based Angie's list provide customer reviews of a wide range of businesses. Anybody can visit one of these online review sites and write a review. While the online review sites generally encourage customers to use their real names, and Yelp asks for a photograph, the only compulsory requirement is a real email address.
Polls
Customers are given general guidelines for reviews, and asked to allocate a star rating for the product or service reviewed. The online review sites then use an algorithm (mathematical formula) to filter out any reviews that they suspect are false or automatically generated. The remaining reviews are then posted on a page.

When more than one review has been posted, the sites average the star ratings to give a business or product an overall rating. Reviews generally appear in date order, but can be searched by star rating and are sometimes re-ordered at the discretion of the site. Reviewers who post a lot of reviews generally get a higher status, and their reviews are given more prominence.

Most general online review sites also allow businesses to claim their business page and 'join' the site as a member. Some online review sites then offer businesses access to online tools, which allow you to track reviews and respond privately to reviewers.

Special review

Specialised online review sites operate in much the same way as general online review sites, except that they focus on particular business categories.

Two well-known specialist online review sites are Urbanspoon, which reviews restaurants and similar establishments, and TripAdvisor, which focuses on holiday-related reviews. However, new specialist sites spring up regularly, with online review sites now devoted to doctors (ZocDoc), makeup (MakeupAlley), and more. Some online review sites require proof that a customer has actually used a particular business, but most do not.

Retailer websites

Retailers' online review sites are set up primarily to sell products, but many now allow customers to post reviews as well. The largest site of this type is Amazon, which features millions of products and reviews.

Anybody who posts a review on Amazon must have an Amazon account, and must be able to demonstrate they have purchased from Amazon - but they don't need to have purchased the product that they are reviewing. Amazon gives detailed guidelines for customer reviews and also allows people who are 'officially associated with a product' to respond to customer reviews. Strict guidelines apply to these comments.

Blogs

Blogs are online diaries that feature regular posts by the blogger. They generally cover a wide range of topics and often touch on things that impress or disappoint the blogger. Some bloggers include comments about businesses that they like or dislike, which function as online customer reviews.

Other social media

Reviews also turn up on social media in a variety of forms. For example, a Facebook user can post a comment about a business on their own profile page, or on the page of the business concerned. Facebook users can also click on the 'like' button for a particular business page. This is becoming increasingly common, with a 2011-2012 Nielsen survey of around 5000 Australians finding that 57% had 'liked' a brand or organisation on Facebook in the previous year.

While Twitter only allows users to send messages ('tweets') up to 140 characters long, these can also function as mini-reviews (e.g. 'Had the best stay at X hotel last weekend').

Promote Soundcloud tracks for free

Socializer
FREE service to make updating your social networks a snap!
Polls
Almost every active, relevant musician is now using Soundcloud. There are millions of active account holders on this social network which makes life hard for any artist to really be seen and heard. All hope is not lost as there are still many ways to promote Soundcloud tracks for free, so that you can stand out above the rest - which we will go through with you below.

The main thing is to keep your profile updated. You must upload unique music but also sharing the song on different social networks such as Twitter and Facebook. The more you do this the more traffic you will send to your SoundCloud account. It is all about staying connected with your listeners which is why you should also make sure that you respond to comments that are left on your songs. This will show SoundCloud that you are active, and that people are liking what they listen to.

  1. Amplification

Sharing your SoundCloud profile to all your social networks online will further expand your fan base. One good turn deserves another, so make sure to do the same on your social networks, make your SoundCloud profile stand out on your blog, Facebook, and Twitter. Take advantage of your profile and track descriptions to give an introduction about you and your work, tell a story, and ask people to click the repost button if they like your content. Encouraging people to share your music will result in more shares than not telling them to do so, and this will lead to more followers, as well as track-likes.
  1. Free Soundcloud Likes
Get Free Followers is a service specializing in music promotion on Soundcloud. Before going through this how-to, we must agree that you need great content and frequent releases. If you are doing music a good rate could be 2 songs per month. If you reach certain rate, don't stop for too long or your followers might lose attention in your work.

Soundcloud is a community platform that's heavily focused on allowing you to discover new stuff, through what's trending and by involving findings and content of people you've already connected with. As a result, a halfway decent Soundcloud stroller will often come across a new act.

  1. Google search optimization

Google likes space. Instead of User123 make it User 123. Google also likes repetition. Repeating your Display Name in your Profile URL and linking to your other social networks will help you climb up the ladder on Google search results.

Increasingly more so, social media profiles have become the go-to of the younger generation. The majority of people, and particularly the demographic of 15-25 years old, immediately looks to social media profiles when further investigating an artist they have just discovered. I'm sure you've come across a band that you liked on Facebook, went to their 'about' section and discovered that there weren't any links to their other social media profiles there. Annoying right? So straightforward, yet this key point is missed out on by so many acts, when it comes to promote Soundcloud tracks for free.

Soundcloud has integrated the ability to add social media links to your profile, and even adds the correct thumbnail images to the links of the larger sites. You can edit these under your 'Advanced Profile' settings. When setting these up, I recommend that you restrict the amount of networks you use. The essential links are: website (www.thebestbandever.com), Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.

Everything else is irrelevant, and the more options you present to people, the less likely they are to click any of them.

For those of you out there who are looking to build upon your credible profile and have a chance of reaching your targeted market we will always suggest that you use FREE SoundCloud likes tool (mentioned above) - instead of buying likes. The likes that this tool provides come from real active users who have been directed to your song of your choice due to their unique marketing methods which of course comply with this social networks terms and conditions. You'll get to know about their marketing methods - on the above article as well - they keep it that much transparent to the users.

It is very important that you either use the SoundCloud likes tool or do what ever you can to gain them because if you have a large amount of plays but very few likes it will not do your image any justice.
